General Description
Trikeenan MODULUS tile are formed from wet clay; finished, glazed and fired to 2200 degrees F. Custom tiles may be produced at other temperatures and with other processes.

Standard Specifications
Trikeenan conforms to ANSI 137.1 as Special Purpose Tile. Our tile are produced, graded and packed to our stated specifications.

How to Specify
Glazed, Modulus tile in actual size ________________ (specify actual size) and color ___________________ (specify glaze name) as manufactured by Trikeenan Company, Hornell, NY. Tile shall conform to ANSI 137.1 as Special Purpose Tile. Allow 4-6 weeks from time of purchase order to delivery.

Availability
These tiles are made to order and therefore subject to production limitations and order volume fluctuations. For purposes of specification, a lead time of 4-6 weeks is sufficient in most cases. Check with the factory or your local dealer for verification of delivery.

Color Variation
Most Trikeenan glaze colors vary from tile to tile, some more than others. These variations are intentional, resulting from our particular production methods and our choice of raw materials. When specifying a Trikeenan glaze, always work from a sampling of 3 or more tiles which represent the range of color you can expect on the job.

Murals
Trikeenan murals should be laid out prior to installation to verify the spacing and fit. The tiles surrounding the mural should be carefully chosen to blend with those in the mural itself. Install murals at the same time as surrounding tiles to assure correct fit.

Crazing
Crazing refers to the hair-line cracks which may occur in the glaze surface of tiles after firing and is common in hand crafted tile. All ceramic glazes are eventually subject to this effect. Glazes produced by Trikeenan are intentionally crazed for decorative effect. To minimize the possibility of staining Trikeenan recommends using a penetrating sealer or grout release. Trikeenan recommends testing a small section following the manufacturer's instructions.

Size Variation
Due to shrinkage from wet to fired tile in the manufacturing process, our tile is subject to size variation.  The nominal tile thickness is 3/8” and can vary, along with other specified dimensions

Custom Color Development
We specialize in custom color development. Generally, we can match the hue and sheen of a sample submitted. For a fixed development fee, we will conduct a series of glaze tests and make a prototype tile for submittal. Typically 2-4 weeks is needed for testing, however, please check with the factory for current development time in our glaze lab.

*Custom Color Policy:

Developing a custom color requires skill and vast knowledge of ceramic materials. Custom color requests will be considered based on a minimum order of 250 square feet. Trikeenan requires that a development fee of $300 be paid for custom color matching and testing - up to 3 attempts. Additionally, a 25% up charge will be applied to any product ordered that is not regularly offered in our product lines, i.e. custom developed colors or standard colors run on a custom tile body.

Installation
Installation methods should conform to the Tile Council of America "Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation" (current edition).  Tiles from several different cartons should be mixed to achieve the best overall blend of color.

Grout Space
Trikeenan recommends a 1/8” to 3/16” grout joint.  Smaller grout spacing can be used including "a tight joint"; however, additional tiles will be required to cover a given area. Narrow grout spaces accentuate tile irregularities.

Maintenance
Minimal maintenance is required. Mild soaps should be sufficient for most cleaning. Test any cleaners before general use.

Durability Considerations
Depending on specific site conditions, all glazed tile are subject to wear over time. To determine the suitability for specific applications, each Trikeenan glaze has been tested and ranked on the MOHS scale and classified according to hardness and recommended use. Light colors and matte glazes are a better choice in heavy use areas rather than dark colors and gloss finished glazes because scratches on the tile surface are less apparent. A means must be provided for people to clean abrasive materials off their shoes before walking on a glazed tile floor.

High-Fired Metallic Glazes
These tiles, with the exception of Washed Quarry, feature metal molecules embedded on the glaze surface for a sensational metal effect. The glazes are non-toxic in both manufacture and usage. The glaze surfaces are sensitive to oxidation and must be protected. It is pre-sealed at the factory. Periodically the sealer must be renewed to protect the metallic quality. These glazes are NOT suitable for areas where abrasion, water and/or strong chemicals are present. Pre-test any sealers or grout releases before general use. Some products will discolor the glaze/metal surface. Trikeenan will not be responsible for discoloration to this tile from chemicals or moisture.
